VI. The Principle of Gender

“Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes.”

Everything has a yin and yang. On the physical plane each person has a male or a female physical body, however androgynous he or she might be in terms of thoughts and feelings.

In Chinese philosophy, foods are divided into yin and yang. This law applies not only on the physical plane, but also on the emotional, mental, and spiritual planes. Father God and Mother Earth; yang emotions and yin emotions; yang thoughts and yin thoughts. I have listed the yin and yang qualities at the close of this section.

The key point here is that the spiritual path is the path of balance and integration. Buddha called it the Middle Way. He demonstrated that the path to God was not the path of either self-indulgence or asceticism but was the path of balancing the male and female aspects within the self and also of balancing the Heavenly and Earthly aspects within the self.

The spiritual path also includes the balancing of the three minds, the four bodies, and the seven chakras. It also means proper balance between the soul and the ego. This is achieved by transcending negative ego, hence keeping the ego in its proper relationship to soul, allowing it to take care of the physical body but not to interpret your life.

As mastery is achieved this balanced state becomes more habitual and doesn’t require as much time and energy. Balance is achieved by “knowing thyself” and understanding the universal laws that govern your being. To know God, you must understand God’s laws.
